Isn’t a bit PRESUMPTUOUS for the news media to say Bernie Madoff will DIE behind bars because of the 150 year sentence? Who knows what kind of billion dollar life extending elixir Bernie was drinking all this time. I am sick of sensational journalism. I am NOT sick of this picture of Ruth Madoff riding the subway however.
My favorite part is the quote, “Are you having fun embarrassing me — and ruining my life?” That is essentially how I feel when I’m on the subway everyday of my life.

As someone who lived it and watched it happen over a three years time span, I found this article posted on the Boston Herald website about the death of the gay scene in Boston very interesting. The reasons they cite for the decline of the Boston gay scene seem pretty spot on, now that I think about it:

“Everybody meets online. I would rather,” said Jonathan Young, a 23-year-old makeup artist who lives in the South End. Though Young met his fiance at a club in Manhattan, he said singles no longer cruise the bar scene. “On the Internet, you can screen. It’s not as aggressive,” he said.
If the Internet slowed the gay-bar scene, the law for same-sex marriage, enacted five years ago, brought it to a snail’s pace. “Once gay marriage became legal, people were more comfortable mixing (in straight environments),” said Jim Clerkin, also known as “Gay Jim” the music director and producer for “Matty in the Morning” on WXKS-FM (Kiss-108).

Also, check out what my buddy, and current Bostonite, Clint has to say on the matter as well. He argues that the new generation of gays (Gay 2.0s as he likes to call them) might not want or need gay bars.

Anyway, luckily down here in New York we have a plethora of options on any given night that cater to every different kind of gay and scene. It’s definitely fascinating how the epicenter of the gay marriage movement’s gay night life is changing. Speaking from personal experience, my favorite nights out during my last year in Boston were at the monthly Boston Guerilla Queer Bar nights where the gays would take over a different straight bar each month.

Ethan McNAmee, a third-grader at Montclair Elementary School in Denver, organized a rally for marriage equality and delivered a speech at the Colorado State Capitol on Saturday:

“He was concerned about the issue after hearing about anti-gay remarks on the playground and then learning about a same sex couple in his neighborhood that couldn’t get married. ‘Everybody is different in a good way,’ he said. Ethan believes that if two people love each other that is the only issue to be considered. Ethan took it upon himself to arrange the rally and line up the guest speakers. He admitted it was more work then he thought it would be, but adds it was fun.”

McNamee’s permit was filed under the name of his school teacher Kyle Kimmal, because he’s too young to apply for one himself.

Well, I passed the NY Bar. This happened over a week ago, and I had a lot to say about it. Now it feels like a hundred years ago and it’s really not that interesting when I think about it. I figured I should at least mention it for the loyal blog readers.

Anyways, tonight I saw Were the World Mine. It’s about Timothy — this gay guy in high school who gets the lead in the ~senior play~ A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream. He gets bullied at school a lot by the rugby team, but he happens to have a crush on one of the players (of course). Said crush also gets a starring role in the play as well (of course). Anyway, things get pretty silly when he somehow makes this magical concoction that he squirts in people’s eyes causing them to fall in love with whoever they see when they open their eyes… just like A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream, what a coincidence! As if that wasn’t silly enough, the movie itself is sort of a musical so there is a good amount of singing at random moments. Although I’m being a little sarcastic, I actually really enjoyed it and the ending was very satisfying. Go see it, it’s fun!
Check out the trailer:

And if that doesn’t interest you enough… one of my favorite songs ever was in the movie as well, Patrick Wolf’s Magic Position!

Now that the election is over, there’s no point in watching clips of racist people on YouTube anymore. I’ve moved onto watching the crazies in the Yes on Prop 8 videos.

When I watch it, I can’t help but to remember what I was thinking when we learned about the civil rights era in middle school and high school and watched all those videos. I would always wonder what their living children and grandchildren must think of their racist relatives being immortalized in these clips.

It weirds me out how EXCITED they are to vote Yes on Prop 8. It’s like, “Yeah man, that’s cool, that’s cool, let’s have a Prop 8 party where we can sit around and talk about it for hours because you know, there’s not a war going on right now… or an economy in disarray… or a disastrous health care system… or anything.”
I’ll leave you with a clip made by the same people from the clip above. It’s amazing how they think THIS would convince people.

She doesn’t even know WHY she’s so excited to vote yes on Prop 8. JUST GO TO THE WEBSITE, DON’T ASK ME TO GIVE A REASON.
And hon… I don’t think Richard thinks you’re one of his best friends.
